Web 2.0 goes Mobile

I am sitting here at the New, New Internet Conference in Tysons Corner, Virginia. There have been some really interesting speakers but the the real value is in the sub-text of the conference - the ramifications that occur in the enterprise when these new technologies ainfiltrate the enterprise. However, I have been investigating the potential for mobile applications in Web 2.0. I believe the real innovation will occur around the mobile handset. There are about three times as many cell phones in the US as there are web connected PCs. As Jason Goldberg of Jobster pointed out - In the UK 103% of the population have a mobile phone. Michael Arrington of TechCrunch who also gave a thought provoking talk at the conference sees challenges in creating a winning mobile 2.0 application in the USA. However, one of the most interesting companies exhibiting at the conference's technology showcase seems to have overcome these challenges. HookMobile are on the verge of launching a cross-platform multimedia application for cell phones. Think of it as baseball card collecting in the digital age with cards being delivered and shared from your cell phone. Given the growing importance of the cellphone as an internet access device I see this as an application with a tremendous future. This is an application targetted at the youth market and fits right in with that lifestyle. I see a bright future for HookMobile who are based in Alexandria, VA. Watch out for their product launch in the very near future.

Hi Mark. I got your blog address from your email signature and so am reading your post about mobile apps via my Motorola Q. Ironically I can't read the whole post because your hyperinks are unreadable against your black background! Otherwise, good post. :)

  2. Mike,

Thanks for feedback. I need to take a look at the template. May be it is time for a redesign.
