#HDPalooza @AneeshChopra fireside chat with Aaron Levie of Box

Health Data Palooza 2015 – Box for Health

Realtime notes from day 2 of the HealthData Palooza 2015 (#HDPalooza) in Washington DC.

Why did Box go deep in to Health?

Six months ago Box acquired a medical imaging company
2.5 years ago they became HIPAA-compliant.

Box can expose the meta data to help security management or productivity.

Box has also formed a Government Vertical.

Government is operating on legacy technology that works against collaboration.

The Presidential Transition Team in 2008 put Cloud at the top of the agenda.

FEDRAMP is a high bar for using the cloud. It is good to have a standard.

Open Data is moving to implementation.

Taking the core infrastructure in Box is now being made available as an API so that box is just under the covers.

Aneesh: 2/3rds of Hospital Systems attested that patients didn’t want access to their data.

Aaron: Killer apps are needed to drive openness. Most consumers don’t care about their data they care about outcomes, cost etc.
