GMail goes Mobile

As reported in MobileCrunch Google has launched a java applet to enable access to gMail from your mobile phone. The applicaiton is neat and provides easy access to your gMail mail box. There is a caveat for Nokia Communicator users. I tried this on a Nokia 9500 Communicator using a Wi-Fi connection. The menu keys appear along the bottom of the screen. However, The Communicator (I assume that the 9300 will have the same problem) has the menu keys to the right of the screen. You therefore have to mentally translate left menu prompt to the top menu key and right menu prompt to the bottom menu key on the right hand side of the screen. The other thing I need to work out is how to stop the applet prompting me to go get my okay to download data from the network. I am sure it is a setting somewhere on the phone. Other than those niggles the java applet provides an easily readable entry in to mobile gMail. Once again Google demonstrates that they have a good understanding of Mobile and the grwoing importance of Mobile in the shaping of the Internet.

I have no comment about new gmail mobile because it`s great and it functions smooth. But one thing misses:
If I have more than one mail besides gmail I must install two or three programs to watch, send… At the moment my favorite program is Movamail http://movamail.com/ because you can use multiple accounts (gmail, yahoo mail, hotmail, aol…) and it supports POP, IMAP and Webmail and I think it will overcome great Gmail just because it’s versatile.
