Just like so many Mac products the iPhone just works. It may not have all the cutting edge features. Think about Robert Scoble streaming live video from his nokia N95. However the iPhone wins on integration and overall user experience.
With the imminent launch of Google's Android-based cell phones we will see WebKit browser usage grow even faster. Since WebKit, which powers Safari also powers the Android browser.
Developers can no longer ignore the Safari/WebKit browser. Compatibility with that browser platform is becoming a prerequisite, particularly if you plan to offer a mobile experience to your users.
