#HDPalooza @N_Brennan introduces his boss @ASlavitt from CMS

# Keynote

Andy Slavitt, MBA
Acting Principle Deputy Administrator, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, US Department of Health and Human Services, Washington, DC

Personal experiences

MACRA designed to change healthcare.

Obsessed with the plight of the independent physician.

If we don’t take care of Primary care we will pay more in emergency and intensive care.

Closing the gap between policy makers in Washington and the Physicians in the field.

Doctors feel burned out only hanging in for their patients.

Technology and Measurement is taking time away from patients.
Overwhelmed on data entry.

We need to support physicians and patients.

Systems don’t talk to each other.

Healthcare.gov – Technology was the problem until it wasn’t and now 20M people now have health coverage that they had never had before.

Healthcare.gov does a daily crawl of payer web sites for Provider directories and formularies.

Last year 500K people signed up in a SINGLE day.

How did this happen: Relentless focus on delivering for the customer.

We are at the cusp of another massive change. Where Physicians are rewarded for effective care.

We have to make the care change a national priority.

It is confidence that is driving a focus back on real patient-centered care.

Data should follow patients
Apps should be plug and play.

Design around patients not around regulations

As we implement MACRA we are amidst the biggest change since the 60’s. 85_ generation will double in the next few years.

You can change the course of history.

Close to half of hip replacements are now in a bundled payments program.

CMS is caring for 140M Americans.

We didn’t spend $35B to help businesses build their own silos.

Stop making up bogus privacy issues.
Make all your data machine readable.

Provide data in real time the way they want to use it. They don’t want ten portals!

No room for business practices that don’t support the needs of patients.

MACRA is the burning platform for radical reformation of care delivery.
