#HDPalooza: Senator Bill Cassidy – The congressional Perspective

The Congressional Perspective

Where to start with medical records….

Progress…. Xray referrals. It used to be you brought film, now you bring a disc. Wow-. what progress. NOT.

EHRs are clunky and don’t focus on the patient.

We need to focus on the patient-physician relationship. EHRs have torn that apart.

We are seeking an “Activated Patient”. Skills, knowledge and confidence to manage their care.

“That which is measured can be addressed.”

We need to focus on the patient’s need and not on drop-down boxes.

In a 30 minute session a doc has 5 minutes to address the patient. The rest of the time s needed to complete the EHR.

We are measuring outcomes and not processes.

No buying with a gag clause.

Publish APIs.

We need price and Quality transparency.

We need to think about what works for patients and physicians and caregivers and not the EHRs.

Don’t chain Physicians to the EHR. Empower them to be better.
